As people start to begin their return to the office, home brewers have begun to wonder what kind of setups they’ll be needing to brew in the office, assuming of course your office allows for it. The great thing about home brewing gear is that you don’t need to bring too many things that will take up a lot of space. Here we share a few key things you’ll need to be able to make yourself and even your officemates a great cup of coffee in the office.
Aeropress
The pinnacle of portability, the Aeropress is a low-frills coffee brewer that can make coffee in a number of different ways. You can brew coffee in its normal configuration, inverted to have the coffee immerse better, with more coffee grounds in order to do a bypass brew, and many other ways. The great thing about the AeroPress is how easy it is to set up, and it’s also quite easy to clean. You can even get yourself the AeroPress Go which is their even more compact version of the AeroPress that even comes with its own cup and filter holder. It goes without saying that you shouldn’t forget your AeroPress filter.
Kalita Ceramic Dripper
If you’re more of a pour over kind of brewer, the Kalita Ceramic Dripper could be your bet. Coming in two sizes, namely the 101 (1-2 cup size) or 102 (2 – 4 cup size), the Kalita Ceramic Dripper makes it easy to make a nice pour over in the office. Being able to produce consistently balanced cups of coffee is a great strong suit of this dripper, and as we said with the AeroPress, be sure to remember to bring your filters.
Coffee Scale
The coffee scale is a critical tool in ensuring a great cup of coffee. Being able to weigh out not just the coffee itself but the amount of water you pour onto the bed of coffee will help ensure you don’t over or under extract your brew.
Hand Grinder
It might be a bit difficult to bring an electric grinder to the office for a myriad of reasons, so getting a nice portable hand grinder is a great way to go. Unlike in the past, there are now a great number of options with minimal compromise and at a wide range of price points to ensure you can have the hand grinder of your choosing.
Gooseneck Kettle
This part may vary depending on which brewer you end up going with, since using an AeroPress will need at the least a regular hot water kettle (a thermometer may be needed in this regard). If your office is a little more forgiving for space, you can look at the option of getting a gooseneck kettle. If your office has an existing hot water source, you can buy a smaller gooseneck kettle and a separate thermometer to manage the costs better.
