The Philippines is a fantastic place to grow coffee. It’s actually one of the few countries in the world that can produce all types of commercially-viable coffee, which are Arabica, Robusta, Liberica, and Excelsa. And because of the Philippines’ vast array of terrains, from mountainous ranges to river valleys to coastal plains, native coffees grown in different areas will inherit its own distinct flavor profile. Several of the country’s 82 provinces produce coffee, with the most common type being Robusta.
We wanted to highlight the unique varieties of Filipino coffee, so we collaborated with fellow roaster Escolta Coffee Company to make the Roaster Team Up Box. It’s our limited-edition single-origin coffee set, which includes native beans from up north in the province of Benguet all the way down to the coastal Zamboanga del Sur. From Benguet, we have the Sitio Belis roasted by Plain Sight Coffee Roasters and from Zamboanga del Sur we have the Aurora-Balucan Fiba Robusta roasted by Escolta Coffee Company.
Grown in contrasting terroirs, which is the growing conditions of the coffee’s source, the two native beans possess excitingly different flavor profiles. Their unique characteristics reflect their place of origin, which we ultimately wanted to showcase.
In each Roaster Team Up Box, you can get:
- 1 limited-edition collaboration tote bag (blue or beige)
- 1 200g Sitio Belis
- 1 200g Aurora-Balucan Fiba Robusta
Sitio Belis
Sitio Belis is made of Arabica beans from the mountainous province of Benguet. Its high elevation and cool temperatures make the province highly conducive for growing beans. Benguet’s ideal conditions typically result in a sweeter, more complex flavor profile. For Sitio Belis, you can expect the bright and floral notes of cherries, caramel, and jasmine.
Aurora-Balucan Fiba Robusta
This single-origin coffee from Zamboanga del Sur gives you warm notes of kamias, rum, licorice, cola, and baking spices. The southern province, with its moderate elevation and fertile soil, has great potential to produce world-class Robusta coffee. The Aurora-Balucan Fiba Robusta in particular is processed by Zamboanga del Sur’s own provincial government. In contrast to Sitio Belis’ clean and sweet flavor profile, the Aurora-Balucan Fiba Robusta offers a strong yet earthy taste.
To tie everything together, the Roaster Team Up Box also includes a limited-edition collaboration tote bag designed by our resident graphic designer Risa Barcelona. Available in blue or beige, the tote bag features the country’s rich coffee heritage that spans from the rolling mountains of the north to the coastal plains of the south.

This collaboration explores not just the exciting potential of Filipino coffee, but also how partnerships among farmers and roasters can support the local industry. With the growing local coffee scene, it’s high time that farmers and roasters get together to produce top-class single-origin coffee that comes right from our own land.
