AeroPress (Standard Method)

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • AeroPress
  • 18 grams coffee
  • 200mL brewing water
  • Filters (paper or metal)
  • Coffee grinder (optional)
  • Kettle
  • Stirrer
  • Mug

You might be wondering if you can have it all when it comes to brewing coffee: ease, versatility, and most importantly, great-tasting coffee. Then you probably haven’t heard about the AeroPress, the little coffee maker that could! The AeroPress is a manual brewer favored for its versatility and ability to produce consistently great coffee. It’s popular among campers because it’s incredibly travel-friendly, but they’re just as great to use in the office or at home. It’s also great for beginners who want to explore different brewing methods, with its simple design it’s pretty much foolproof for you to get delicious coffee every time.

In this brewing guide, we’ll cover the Standard Method of brewing with an AeroPress. This method yields a clean, bright cup of coffee with less of the bitter taste. There are two variations: the non-bypass and bypass method, which allows you to control the dilution and intensity of the coffee.

 

How to prepare your coffee:

Grind size: medium-fine

Coffee amount: 18 grams

Brewing water: 200ml hot water

 

 

 

 

Non-Bypass Method

 

 

  1. Place the paper/metal filter on the filter cap and screw it on the chamber.
  2. Add the ground coffee in the chamber and pour in 200 ml of hot water.
  3. Close the chamber with the plunger and steep for 1 minute and 15 seconds.
  4. Place on a mug or server and gently press to extract.

 

 

 

 

Bypass Method

 

  1. Place the paper/metal filter on the filter cap and screw it on the chamber.
  2. Pre-wet the filter and pre-heat the chamber by pouring in hot water. Discard water.
  3. Add the ground coffee in the chamber and pour in 150ml of hot water.
  4. Close the chamber with the plunger and steep for 1 minute and 15 seconds.
  5. Place on a server and gently press to extract.
  6. Add in the remaining 50ml of your hot water.
